Community Updates

A Message from the Sonia Plotnick Health Fund (SPHF) Board of Directors

SPHF believes that Black Lives Matter. We believe that we have a responsibility to address racial inequity in our organization and our community. By providing financial assistance for healthcare costs, we are already in a position to assist local Black women who are disproportionately impacted by disparities in medical access and care.

What We Will Do

  • We will reach out to organizations (at least one in each of the 5 counties we serve) in minority communities to increase the number of women of color applicants.
  • We will make a donation to Black Women’s Health Imperative, the first nonprofit organization created by Black women to help protect and advance the health and wellness of Black women and girls.
  • We will ensure that at least one of our two St. Petersburg College Scholarships is awarded to a woman of color each year.
SPHF is committed to increasing diversity and inclusion in our Board of Directors and at our events. We want to be allies in the fight to eliminate racism and violence against Black people.  If you want to help us be part of the solution, we welcome your involvement. Please email chair@sphf.org. If you want to be involved in the Black Lives Matter Movement, please consult with local organizations or the list of resources here.
