Interested in being a board member?

The Sonia Plotnick Health Fund periodically recruits board members as we  like to keep our Board energized with new perspectives.   The Board typically meets once per month for 2-3 hours to consider the business of the board and to review grant applications.    Applicants will be sent  a  short questionaire to complete.  All applicants must have a background check completed ( at the expense of the Fund ) for eligibility and a one year minimum  commitment is required .   There are additional meetings held as needed to plan and execute our fund raising  events.

If you are interested in helping others, please contact us at

SPHF IN THE COMMUNITY at GAYBOR DAYS!

The Sonia Plotnick Health Fund will be helping to kick off Gaybor Days on Thursday, June 30th by providing a booth where health information on breast, lung, skin and prostate cancer can be obtained. We will be stationed at the Tampa Metro Wellness and Community Center located at 1315 7th Avenue in Ybor City. The event is scheduled from 11 am to 4 pm so come on out and let us teach you how to do breast self exams (BSE) or bring your partner and we’ll teach you how to examine each other’s breasts! Early detection of breast cancer is critical as the younger a woman is when she develops breast cancer, the lower her chance of surviving.

Living in Florida we require less time of exposure to damaging sunlight as the sun’s intensity is higher and skin cancer can kill. Use SPHF 30 sunscreen on your exposed body parts and zinc oxide on your face for protection and reapply often! Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses.

Lung cancer not only kills, it is a major contibutor to disability which will limits your ability to be fully active and enjoy all the pleasurable activities in your life. More help is now available to quit than ever before so make a healthy change and live life fully.

Bring out your boy-friends for information on prostate cancer and if they are under 30 years old, testicular cancer information will also be available.

Please, come see us and learn to provide loving care for yourself and your partner, because YOU DESERVE IT. SPHF at Metro Charities Health Fair June 30 from 11-4 pm at Tampa Metro Wellness and Community Center located at 1315 7th Avenue in Ybor City. archived 7/2/2011

Lynda Rodriguez retires from the Board of SPHF

Linda Rodriguez, President

Linda Rodriguez, President

The Board of the Sonia Plotnick Health Fund would like to express our sincere thanks and love for Lynda’s leadership over the past two years. Lynda served a total of six years on the Board of Directors- the final two as the President.

During her tenure, SPHF achieved many goals that have helped move us forward as an organization and as a leading not-for-profit organization in the Tampa Bay area. Some of the accomplishments which have occured through the hard work of all board members under Lynda’s guidance include:

Establishment of SPHF as a 501c3 organization

Creation of an updated, user friendly website

Addition of the Pay Pal option for ticket purchases and donations

Establishment of Constant Contact communication to reduce advertising costs

Selection of the Sonia Plotnick Health Fund as the 2009 Community Organization of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Guild.

Most importantly, with Lynda’s leadership SPHF has been able to continue funding the health care needs of women throughout the Tampa Bay area who have applied to the Fund which is our most important goal!  archived 6 10 2011
