Chicky Desmarais,  President

Chicky has been a board member of the Sonia Plotnick Health Fund since 1998.  She is a psychiatric-mental  health nurse practioner who works with survivors of combat and sexual trauma.  She has been a strong advocate for women’s health for the past two decades, including serving as president of the Pensacola Chapter of the National Organization for Women prior to her move to the Tampa Bay Area in 1995.

Mary Smith,  Administrator

Mary brings to the board 30 plus years in health care as a retired Nurse and Massage Therapist. Mary also is a Reiki Master, and volunteers for Hospice doing Reiki and companion care. She is active in her condo community by serving on the Recreation Board for 5 years. She is enthusiastic in assisting women with their health care needs.

Lisa Cercek, Treasurer

Lisa Cercek, Treasurer

Lisa has been a board member for several years.  She has served as Fund Administrator and Treasurer for the organization.  Her business expertise has helped the Fund form relationships with health care providers in the Tampa Bay area.  Lisa also raises money for the Fund and other charities through her “Roasts” throughout the year.

Jeni has worked in the  mental health field in the Pinellas County area for many years.  She is very  involved in the “community” for 20 years or so, with events and fundraisers and is very dedicated to the women in our community as well as the issues they face daily with mental and physical health.

Jen Funk,  Director

Jen is a Florida transplant who is employed at Tropicana Field.  She is very interested in reaching out to women in need of health care and educating them as to the available resources.  She is a talented fundraiser and event planner.

Marla Spruill, Director

Marla Spruill, Director

Marla has volunteered for the SPHF for many years  creating  and  maintaining it’s social media  pages/newsletters and is the official event photographer at SPHF events. She has drawn upon her 30 plus years experience in retail sales and management/marketing to assist in the planning and execution of several profitable fundraisers for the SPHF. She is an enthusiastic Tampa Bay Rays supporter and was inducted into the Pepsi Rays Wall of Fame in 2010.

Dorothy Noller, Director

Dorothy Noller, Director

Dorothy Noller comes to SPHF from Rhode Island with a lifetime of experience in both health care and GLBT activism. She helped start the GLBT employee resource group at R.I. Hospital. In 1978 she founded the Rhode Island Women’s Association which is a social/activity group for gay women. Dorothy hopes to continue along this path of helping to improve women’s lives.

Shelley Stuchell,  Director

Shelley was born and raised in the Buffalo area and began her career as an English teacher before moving into the social services field.  She has extensive  experience with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and  Planned Parenthood of Niagara County. She also volunteered at the Crisis Hotline, Visiting Friend Program , Gay and Lesbian Youth Services of Western New York, The Niagara County Child Maltreatment Project, and Leadership Niagara.

Following the passing of her life partner, Shelley moved to Florida  and the SPHF is thrilled to help Shelley continue her volunteer activism as the newest member of the Board of Directors.

Interested in being a board member?

The Sonia Plotnick Health Fund periodically recruits board members as we like to keep our Board energized with new perspectives. The Board typically meets once per month for 2-3 hours to consider the business of the board and to review grant applications. Applicants will be sent a short questionaire to complete. All applicants must have a background check completed ( at the expense of the Fund ) for eligibility and a one year minimum commitment is required . There are additional meetings held as needed to plan and execute our fund raising events.
